parent group
sibling group
This group meets to discuss the common issues that parents and caregivers of children with Type 1 Diabetes face, and provides a common ground for discussion and support.
This group is for kids who have a sibling with Type 1 Diabetes. It's a chance for them to discuss their feelings and challenges and connect with other siblings over that common ground. Led discussions about typical feelings that siblings of a Type 1 Diabetic feel, such as guilt, anger and resentment, fear, needing to be perfect and feeling invisible are discussed.
girls group
This group provides girls a place to connect with other girls with Type 1 Diabetes in a fun, supportive and positive environment. The group includes led discussion around some of the day to day complex social, emotional, and practical issues that girls with Type 1 Diabetes face, and helps them with strategies and techniques to prepare for them and manage them. Issues such as body image and wearing pumps and CGMs, management during the school day and sports and social events will be discussed.
boys group
This group aims to help boys address their unique issues with having Type 1 Diabetes and allows them to share their common experiences, frustrations and challenges in a fun, positive environment with peers who understand and share in their experience. Issues such as sports, competition, peer issues, self-consciousness, frustration and burnout, management at school and compliance issues will be addressed.
teen group
This group is all about the teen experience and all that comes with it...except adding in the issue of having Type 1 Diabetes! Teens are unique and they have unique issues especially when it comes to having Type 1 Diabetes. This group is just for teens to connect and support each other while discussing and problem solving these issues with each other. Led discussion includes issues around independence and compliance with diabetes management. Social issues, family issues and challenges facing college and beyond. (This group will be separated by gender to best address that which is unique to each gender).
